3 MAC’s concealers comparison

Mac conealers comparison

Mac has many concealers in their range and I have 3 different ones.
I think it could be interesting for make-up addicts to know the difference between those.

  1. Mac shades, difference between NC, NW, N
  2. Pro Longwear
  3. Select Cover Up
  4. Select Moisturecover
  5. Colors comparison / Swatches

1. Mac shades, difference between NC, NW, N

Mac divides their products in N (Neutral), NW (Neutral Warm) and NC (Neutral Cool) tones, which refers to your skin undertone.
In short, it means that the NW is warm products for cool skin tone (meaning pink undertone), and NC is cool products for warm skin tone (meaning yellow undertone).

Ho to choose your make concealer shade?
To avoid any mistakes if you’re not sure of your skin tone, just ask a seller, it can be tricky to find out on your own. The sellers are makeup artists, they’re makeup professional and they will help you to pick up the perfect shade for you.

I’m personally NW20 under my eyes (to conceal dark circles) but I use NC20 to correct blemishes and for the rest of my face as I’m more neutral than warm, I’m using N1.
I told you, it’s confusing… So do not hesitate to ask advice.

2. Pro Longwear

The first Mac concealer that I tried (following the advice of Mac’s seller), was the Pro Longwear.
It cost around 20€ in Belgium for 9ml.

The packaging is a little glass bottle with a pump. It looks pretty nice and elegant. I like the pump that (is supposed to) make easier the use of the product, and that is also more hygienic.

This Mac concealer is full coverage and you only need a tiny bit of it to cover your dark circles.

The thing that I don’t like with the packaging, is that the pump provides the same quantity of concealer doesn’t matter if you press hard or just a bit. It delivers too much quantity and you’re loosing too much product each time you press it.

Considering the high coverage, I would better recommend this product to people with really dark circles.
The product is quite drying and you need to moisturize really well your skin before to use it.

I think that the Pro Longwear will be better for people in their twenties.
I’m in my thirties, and I’m quite lucky to have such good genes, I don’t have any wrinkles, not even tiny ones. But this product is so dry that it show up line that eyeshadow even exists. It makes me look 10 years older.

It’s so drying that even with a good eye cream, it feels really uncomfortable, tight and pull the skin. You can definitely see it on the skin, so it doesn’t look really natural.

3. Select Cover Up

The second Mac concealer that I tried was the Select Cover Up.
It cost around 18,50€ in Belgium for 10ml.

The packaging is a little tube. It’s easy to use, it’s hygienic and you use only the quantity of product that you need.

The coverage, I would say is medium to full coverage.

The water base makes it a bit lighter than the Pro Longwear, but it still a heavy concealer that tight and pull also the skin.

What I like to do with this Mac concealer, is to use it as an eye-shadow base, it erases all your veins or blemishes. As it’s a drying concealer it’s perfect if your eyelid is a bit oily.

4. Select Moisturecover

The last Mac concealer that I tried was the Select Moisturecover.

It cost around 18,50€ in Belgium for 5ml. It’s one of the most expensive considering the quantity/price, but it’s also the one that I prefer.

There is an applicator like for lip-gloss.

It feels really light but still has a good coverage. As mentioned in his name it’s moisturizing/hydrating. It doesn’t mark or show up any lines, it looks really natural and comfortable.
The coverage is light to medium, but it’s enough for my dark circles that are purplish/reddish.

But you have to be careful when you pick-up your color.
They are way more dark than other concealers. I had a bad advice from the seller last this time.
I mentioned that I used the NW20 at this time, I asked her to check out if she thought it was the right color for me. She told me that the NW20 that I had on my face was OK. Despite it, she didn’t advice me that the Select Moisturecover will be too darker in NW20.
I’m so angry. Mac is an expensive brand, and when I pay more, I expect to have good advices and not messy advice like I had in London last time.
Now I have to use a white base to make it lighter to can use it…

5. Colors comparison / Swatches

I was a bit surprised to notice that all Mac concealer in the shade NW20 were not the same color.
Why does MAC named them the same way if at the end they are not the same color?

So I wanted to show you the different

On this picture, all the concealers are supposed to be NW20, but look out how dark is the Select Moisturecover compared to the other ones…

I finally find a good match by using the Select Moisturecover in NW15
